A cool Funkis style apartment in Gothenburg

Hello Monday! I hope you had a great weekend?! Mine was the perfect mix of wine with friends, a day out in the Skåne nature and Sunday tinkering around the home so now I'm ready and raring to go! As opposed to Friday's dramatic home tour, I feel the start of the week calls for something fresh and light, don't you agree?! I love this recently renovated Funkis style apartment for sale in Gothenburg. The mid century tables, string shelving system and black leather sofa are in keeping with the year the apartment block was built in 1947.

What do you love most about this space?

Other beautiful apartments with great mid-century inspiration can be found here, here and here. And of course, in my own sitting room here and here (as you can see I'm a big fan!).

Two of my favourite places to find mid-century furniture are the Malmö based second hand store Nirvana (if you find yourself in Southern Sweden!) and online auction house Lauritz (if you don't find yourself in Southern Sweden!). Do you have any other tips?

Have a lovely Monday!

The stunning home of stylist Nathalie Schwer + give-away winner announcement

This space belongs to the stylist Nathalie Schwer and was shot by one of my favourite interior photographers Line Klein. Working in close collaboration with Line, Nathalie is a new force to be reckoned with in the Scandinavian interiors world. I absolutely love her home which was recently captured by Line for Elle Decoration DK in association with Mille Collin Flaherty.

This is one of my favourite spaces in a long time. I love the personal items including the coffee table books, ceramics and prints. And  of course the mid-century furniture. What a fab apartment?!

If you do one thing today it's pour yourself a cup of fresh coffee and take a peek at other Danish homes photographed by Line Klein herehere and here.

I do so love the Danish style, don't you?

Before we all head off for the weekend (yay!) I would also like to announce the winner of the St. Valentine's Day give-away  in association with fab online shop Self Packaging. Thank you so much for all the wonderful entries! The winner is (drum roll.....) Zdenka of blog Zdenin Draws. Congratulations! I will contact you via e-mail.

This Sunday my family and I are going to Thailand  for a break (exciting!). It's been a really tough week for various reasons so it comes at a great time. However, I'll still be blogging daily (I do love to blog, it gives me so much energy and that's definitely thanks to you - thank you!) so do stop back but bear with me in case I have problems with wifi!

Have a lovely weekend and see you Monday!

A monochrome apartment with a touch of mid-century

A friend reflected last week that I really do love my monochrome apartments on here - hands in the air - she's right. So as a nod to my love of black and white here is a beautiful turn of the century Stockholm apartment owned by stylist Sophia and fashion photographer Nils and their children. The couple have carefully renovated the space to bring it up to date while respecting the original features. I love the touches of mid century furniture and industrial style lamps. What a stunning home!

I have a sneaking suspicion I've shown this apartment before. I definitely recognise it but couldn't find it in my archives. But you can't see this home to many times right?!!

For more black and white colour inspiration (after all I am the queen of monochrome!) check out these fab homes. Prefer a splash of colour? These?

PS I am always on the look out for new home tours to share here (a splash of colour perhaps?!).  If you have any tips I'd love to hear from you at myscandinavianhome@gmail.com.

I hope you had a wonderful weekend.

The Row house. And the creative power of boredom.

Newly built mid-century cool housing is not something you would usually pair with 'affordable' but that is exactly what this housing project 'Row on 25th' in Houston, Texas set out to achieve. Investor and landowner Holden Shannon's own home was decorated with the help of designer Barbara Hill. I love the choice of vintage mid-century furniture starting with that fab turquoise sofa, very cool.

Yesterday I was at 'The Conference: Power, Disruption & Lies' in Malmö, Sweden. There were many inspiring seminars but one in particular stood out: 'Being bored but not being boring'. It was about people spending to much time looking at screens and not enough time being bored. The experts say we should switch off and just 'be' to get creative ideas. Like wise with children; being bored sparks their imagination.  As a result we're planning a little 'switching off time' each evening from now on...starting with me...the blogger and Pinterest addict (oh and I haven't told the girls yet!)....

Do you spend to much time on the screen and not enough time being bored?

A Scandinavian mid-century themed home

Hello, I hope you had a fantastic weekend?! I'm recovering from my friends beautiful wedding up in the forest in Dalarna, Sweden. I've known the bride since I was 5 and they turned up to the ceremony in a rowing boat -so romantic! I was a mess!! Anyway. It's therefore apt that I go back into the past for today's post. This home is teeming with Scandinavian mid-century teak furniture and design classics. What a wonderful throw back in time, fantastic!

Are you a fan of Scandinavian mid-century? I have a few lovely pieces but like to mix and match them in with contemporary pieces too. I do admire this home though - and how fab is that cactus planter?! And there's those lovely cats....

For another twist on mid-century check out this home of a Swedish clothes designer I posted last week.

PS  For mid-century furniture Lauritz is always a great bet. Try Design Collectors for many of the fab designer items you see in the home (15% off with code MYSCAN).

A fab mid-century home in Berlin

A mid-century treat today with this incredible 1957 bungalow 'atriumhaus' in the middle of Tiergarten Park, Berlin. It's been a while since I posted a home in this style, I don't know why as I'm a big fan of mid century and have nicked more than a few mid-century Scandinavian pieces from my generous parents in law's attics (coffee table here, drinks trolley here!).

What's your take on mid-century? Is this your kind of home?

I am heading off to Copenhagen this afternoon to attend an event hosted by one of my favourite Scandinavian brands, Muuto. Very exciting! I'll have to fill you in once back over the bridge.

I hope you all have a lovely day!

A Swedish apartment with bold tribal prints

I love this apartment. You can see an underlying Swedish influence with the monochrome theme throughout, mid century furniture and Scandinavian designer pieces which are so often featured on this blog but it also stands out with the addition of the bold tribal prints in the sitting room and bedroom. This is a great reminder that an interior update is easy to achieve by adding textiles in the form of cushions and throws. Oh and I also love the robot collection on the string shelving!

Apartment with a mid-century touch

Hello! At the weekend I nipped into Nirvana in Malmö which is a second hand shop specialising in mid-century scandinavian furniture, it's only open one weekend a month and is crammed full of cool bits and pieces. Such a fab place! My 2 and 4 year old were with me this time so was a bit hard to focus (read - 'incredibly stressful'!) haha! But that doesn't mean I wasn't inspired, and I'm going to have to return soon (on.my.own) to see if I can pick up some cool pieces like the ones in this apartment.

Do you have any mid century pieces in your home? One of my favourite belongings is our mid-century drinks trolley which my mother-in-law gave us.

I hope you all have a lovely day!
